Our Commitment to Safe Dance Education
At Ottawa Dance Centre School, dance education is about more than developing strong technique. We are committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive environment where children and young people can learn, develop their confidence and enjoy their training.
Safeguarding and student wellbeing are an important part of how we operate as a school. Our Artistic Director undertakes ongoing professional development, including annual training in safeguarding and child protection, and our faculty participate in annual safeguarding induction and review.
ODCS faculty working with children and young people are required to complete appropriate Vulnerable Sector Checks, and our school maintains policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, professional conduct, photography and social media, and the protection of vulnerable participants.
Our teachers are expected to maintain clear professional boundaries and to create an environment in which students are treated with dignity and respect. We encourage age-appropriate, positive teaching practices and believe that excellent dance training and student wellbeing should always go hand in hand.
